I was absolutely thrilled when Randee and John asked me to photograph their wedding. I met Randee while attending the University of Saskatchewan and John a few years later. As it turns out, Randee moved from Saskatoon to Calgary to give a go at Skeleton where she met John. Over the years I had photographed Randee and her team for fundraising events and simply because I wanted to find out more about Skeleton and the amazing athletes that compete in this head first, inches off the ice, 130 km/h sport. As some of you might know John Fairbairn just finished his first Olympics in Sochi where he placed a very solid 7th place! It really puts a new perspective on cheering for your home country athletes when you are shouting words of encouragement at the TV to a friend who is halfway around the world.
John and Randees wedding was a beautiful mix of country (Randee grew up in rural Saskatchewan) and city (John in Calgary). Spruce Meadows was really the ideal venue for them, as it seamlessly blends the city/country theme with a big helping of timeless luxury. The church wedding was a held in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where I attend sunday mass growing up. We stopped off in Fish creek park for a few photos then off to Spruce Meadows where a horse was waiting for some bridal portraits. I could go on but instead here are a few of my personal favourites from their special day.
